Winter programming

APTN’s full winter programming rolls out in January, featuring a diverse selection of lifestyle and documentary programs exploring history, Indigenous cultures, family relationships and reconciliation.

  • Haudenosaunee Canoe Journey – Documentary (Premieres in Mohawk Feb. 1; in English Feb. 6)
  • Moosemeat & Marmalade – Season V (Premieres in English Feb. 11; in French Feb. 15; in Cree Feb. 17)
  • Secret History of the Wild West – Season I (Premieres in Blackfoot Feb. 11; in English Feb. 13)
  • Gespe’gewa’gi: The Last Land – Season I (Premieres in English Feb. 13; in Cree Feb. 18)
  • Making a Scene – Documentary (Premieres in English Feb. 20)
  • Policier autochtone – Season II (Premieres in Innu March 30; in French April 5)

Haudenosaunee Canoe Journey follows Iroquois Hickory Edwards on a canoe voyage with his five-year-old daughter Ellie. Relying on knowledge from Elders and intuition to guide his team in the right direction, Hickory hopes to navigate the ancient trade routes of his ancestors.

Moosemeat & Marmalade brings together two different chefs, one Canadian Cree and one British, to explore contrasting cultures and traditions through food. Each episode, chefs Art Napoleon and Dan Hayes share their culinary heritage, experiences and love for wild game.

Secret History of the Wild West is a new docuseries that tells the story of the land now known as North America from an Indigenous perspective. Each episode delves into the exciting life of a key Indigenous historical figure often overlooked by mainstream history narratives.

Gespe’gewa’gi: The Last Land is a fun-filled character-driven docuseries set in Mi’gmaq lands and waters. This new series offers a timely glimpse into the reality of the commercial fishing industry, a hot topic that emerged with the recently mediatized and ongoing dispute around Indigenous-settler relations concerning Mi’gmaq rights to a moderate livelihood in southwest Nova Scotia.

Making a Scene is an APTN-produced documentary that explores the unique DIY music scene on Haida Gwaii. Whether it’s jamming in a secluded cabin or organizing local music carnivals, this island is all about honouring their culture, building community and – most of all – having fun.

Policier autochtone is a Quebec-based docuseries immersing viewers in the daily lives of officers who intervene in Indigenous communities, sometimes even their own.

Other notable shows airing this winter include long-running Indigenous talk show First Talk and the third season of returning favourite Quest Out West Wild Food . For the complete Winter 2021 schedule, visit aptn.ca/schedule.

APTN’s winter programming will be available for streaming on APTN lumi after linear broadcast.
